Decking maintenance is a vital part of owning a beautiful decking area. It looks great when its just been installed but how do you keep it looking that way?
When Glossop Decking install your project we use premium quality materials, the deck boards are not only treated with Tanalith E but are also coated with Pro Wax by the manufacturers. Timeless timber describe their Pro Wax as " like a raincoat for timber " which means that the decking is protected right from the start and doesn't need any further treatment for the next 12 months depending on weather conditions..
Please be aware that Glossop Decking do not recommend applying any treatments to you decking for at least 9 months following installation. This is due to the fact that the deck boards have already been treated prior to installation and need time to weather. If a treatment is applied to soon it will just simply sit on top and not penetrate as it should.
It's an easy process maintaining your decking but needs to be completed in the correct manner and can be very time consuming depending on the size of your decking. The below steps briefly explain the process involved.
1 - Sweep your decking with a stiff bristle brush and collect up all of the debris, paying particular attention to the screw holes and crevices bewteen the deck boards and any ajoining structures.
2 - Use a high power pressure washer to thoroughly remove the remaining debris and ingrained dirt but don't hold the lance too close to the decking boards as you will run the risk of splitting the wood and causing unsightly splinters.
3 - If any stains remain, such as dirt and grease you will need to use a cleaning detergent such as Ronseal decking cleaner and reviver. This is a safe product which can be used around plants and pets. Please follow the manufacturers recommendations with regards to application methods.
4 - Again use a high power pressure washer on a low power setting to remove any remains of the cleaning solution and then sweep the area again with a stiff bristle brush.
5 - The area will then have to be left to dry thorougly for between 48 - 72 hours depending on weather conditions. A product such as Ronseal decking protector should then be applied which will protect the decking for the next 12 months.
Glossop decking advise that customers should sweep their decking every couple of weeks with a stiff bristle brush and clean with a pressure washer twice a year, preferably during spring and autumn.
